Bartering practice

I need to get in some practice at bartering for when we go abroad in June – the place we are going to has lots of markets and the like and we want to buy a lot of pressies and goodies for our new home. I am terrible at bartering though because I am quite shy, I wonder if I will be able to pick up some tips from a site like ComeToBarter.com.

Living it up in London

I think I am going to be hitting the London bars in a few weeks time, I have wanted to visit London again for ages now but we wanted to wait until after the royal wedding as we know it will be crazy down there for the next few days. I have heard a lot about the Sugar Cane cocktail bar in Clapham and it’s definitely on my to visit list

Family all over the world

I have been looking at Outer Banks rentals online as we are considering heading out there in June, we have a few family members out in that area that we have been meaning to visit for several months but never quite seeming to find the time to actually do it. It’s one of the downsides of having family all over the world, but it’s also a great plus as we get lots of free accommodation and tour guides of local areas

Hopefully I will be staying in some luxury new york city hotels in 2011, my brother just got a job out in Times Square and will be put up in hotels by his employers for the 6 months he’s out there – I am already saving up so I can afford some flights out there for a visit as with free accommodation it’d be crazy not to. I have always wanted to go to New York

A date in Chesterfield

I was reminded the other day of when my husband and I first got together, we met on the Internet back in the UK and lived around 2 hours apart – the amount of time we spent on coaches between us over the first few years must have been in the 100s! I’m glad those days are over as I used to hate every moment of the coach journey.

I did enjoy it when I used to get off at Chesterfield though. He used to meet me at the coach station and I used to go either to Chesterfield or Derby – Derby was nice enough but there’s nothing special about it, it’s just like any other large city in the UK. Chesterfield has more character, it’s a much smaller and quaint town but still has all the good shops and things to do.

We often used to have a wander around, go in a few shops, sit in the park, play on the slot machines at the arcade, have something to eat and visit the spire before heading back to his parents house – we used to make it into a sort of date so looking forward to that certainly made the boring coach trip go by a little faster.

All Inclusive…in Egypt?

I remember when I was a teen living in the UK if someone mentioned they were going on an all inclusive holiday – you thought they were cheap, tacky – it was generally looked down upon.

Looking back now I realise how snobby that was. all inclusive holidays are taken by everyone these days because they make sense, and thankfully there are no daft connotations associated with it.

Brits have loved going all inclusive for years now, but with the credit crunch having kicked in they are even more popular and will I expect continue to flourish!

I just read that the top destinations for 2010 are Turkey and Egypt – no surprises about Turkey but Egypt did surprise me a little, I didn’t think it was a typically Brit destination but apparently the excellent exchange rate is coaxing a lot of people in

Now that I am actually living here in the beautiful United States there are many places I want to visit, America is such a huge country compared to the UK that it feels like I could live here all my life and still not even come close to seeing the whole country.

I want to visit all the typical tourist attraction type places — you know see the Empire State building and the White House, but one of the places on the top of my list is Alaska and specifically Denali Park. I just did a search for an Alaska Travel company and came across AlaskaDenaliTours.com who specialise in Denali Park tours, they are now firmly at the top of my Travel Alaska bookmarks folder.

I won’t be able to go this year, that’s for certain, but hopefully this time next year it really will be on the agenda
