When the time comes for us to start looking for a wedding photographer, I am afraid to say we’ll be looking for whoever can take us some half decent snaps at the lowest price – that’s a budget wedding for ya. Although if money were no object I’d love to be able to afford a professional service like the one from Perfekt Photo, their portfolio is truly wonderful to browse – they did a luxury photo shoot at the Royal Hawaiian recently featuring Harry Winston jewelry and Louis Vitton goodies worth over a cool million dollars. My sister in law just announced she’s getting married. I spat out my cup of tea in surprise.

It’s a good job she told me via messenger or that could have been quite awkward haha. I was mainly surprised because the last time I spoke to her a few days ago she and her boyfriend were broken up ‘for good’ so to suddenly be engaged was a bit of a turn around!

She’s already asking me to help her with the planning – so months of flowers, menus and wedding invitations to look forward to for me apparently.

I don’t mind helping out, in fact I will quite enjoy it – like most women I get all gaga over weddings and the like so playing ‘wedding planning’ will be a happy distraction to every day life – but I’m not convinced they’ll even end up going ahead with it, to say that there’s a lot of drama in that relationship would be an understatement. They break up and get back together at least once a month.

I have already made a start looking at wedding invitations though as obviously that and the guest list is one of the first things you need to get on with, especially as they are planning on getting married this summer. She wants something ‘unique’ but hasn’t really expanded on what that means yet, so I am just generally looking around sites like HelloLucky.co.uk to see what’s out there!

A simple wedding

When my husband and I got married it was a very simple affair, though to be honest if I had had it completely my own way it would have been even simpler and smaller than it was! We had a total of 18 guests and we told people that it was going to be very relaxed and not traditional — the invitation said to view it more as a big party than any thing else.

Of course we had to spend months beating off 1000s of “but you have to do this and that” questions and statements beforehand, a lot of people had a hard time understanding or accepting we just didn’t want the bells and whistles — the amount of times I was told by female friends and relatives that I would look back on it one day and regret it, ugh.

We did the vows, we did wedding favors, we had bridesmaids and a best man and that was it
